March 8, 1046

There was nothing better than feeling a breeze at his back. Cuán loved riding. More importantly, he loved taking his bow out and shooting it at what was moving. It had been a year since his mother’s death, two years since his wife’s death and the man had gone all throughout Isularie doing things for the various Ris. Hunting troublesome wolves, a stag, participating in contests even to test his strength. It seemed life without Siobhan had made him restless, and life without Eireann had made him bitter. Everything to him had no light, no life. It was all shallow, empty.

Returning to Cill Mohr with a stag upon his horse’s back, he lead it towards the Ri’s household. Cuán had done things for Niall for some time now. Cill Mohr was his childhood home and even this place would always hold fond memories from him. Many knew him as a warrior, but few knew the reason for his torment in life now. Cuán didn’t make it a habit of sharing what happened to him. It was always written across his face. All knew he had lost the most important women in his life within a few years of each other. That was telling and downright horrible for any man to face.

“Tell the Ri I am here.” He told one of the servants to fetch him. Cuán stepped down from his horse. He had a boar too in a sled behind his second horse. The poor thing had been pulling a lot but when he was sent on a task to fetch meat, he kept his word. Cuán moved to untie the carcass. He would have liked to clean and skin the beast himself. Perhaps he’d make a task of it with Niall. They could discuss things, perhaps. Cuán grunted. He didn’t like talking much these days. His days were always filled with people wanting to talk. They didn’t understand what was going on with him. His mother’s words still echoed in his ears and now he was more determined than ever. He would never stay in more than one place at a time.

He waited for the arrival of Niall, moving the boar carcass off the sleigh and placing it next to it. He unhooked the sleigh, leaving the deer still on the pack horse. At least the poor beast now had some rest. He pat her neck, when finally he heard footsteps. “It took you long enough. Come. I have enough meat to feed your entire household tonight. We just need to skin them and gut them.”

The Pewter Town House
New Sundri, Sundaril

Corrine Severalli had been sent for the minute Augustine's foot landed on Sundrili shores. There was much work to be done and not much time to waste. As soon as the Severalli girl was deposited into her care, they would set off to the workshop and she would begin to teach them. She had ordered each of them an empty journal to be filled with ideas, had smocks made to protect their garments, and ensured that each of them had a sturdy pair of leather gloves. These things awaited her youngest apprentices whom she had decided she would work with the most. She'd contacted Eleanor about coming for a visit and hoped desperately that she'd be allowed to keep the girl under an apprenticeship as well.

All in good time.

The most urgent matter on Augustine's mind was her children. She needed to return to them and deliver the kind of news she'd been dreading. "We're almost there," she assured Lucetta when they were in the carriage. Augustine liked that her young niece proved to be so delightful and curious. It made her job easier. Children, she felt, were essential to the continuous, forward progression of Sundaril as a whole. They still possessed an ability to think beyond the barriers of logic--something most young men and women did not have.

The coach stopped at last at the Pewter town home. Augustine stepped out into the slushy streets and helped her niece down as their things were unloaded from the back. She wanted out of the soggy, overcast mess.

The inside of the town home was warm and cozy as ever. Somewhere in the distance she could hear the chaotic shrieks and delirious laughter of her children. The melancholy that came from knowing she would soon destroy it with her news was crushing. She took her cloak and her niece's handing them off to the footman. "You'll sleep with Corrine in the guest room once she arrives. Henry and Nico share a room upstairs, as do Bridgette and Clara. You're free to explore as you please, provided you don't make any trouble. The same rule extends to the palace and Meadow Briar."

She paused, scrutinizing Lucetta for a moment before she dropped her gaze. "I want very much for you to be comfortable and happy here. I trust you will be, but if you are not, I would like you to tell me so." She drew a shaking breath and dared to look at the girl once more. Eyes and a smile like her brother's. She had to remind herself that he was gone. "Your grandfather, the Earl of Wrothley, will have an interest in meeting you, I expect. He loved your mother very much. It's only natural he should want to meet you too. But that will come when it comes."

"M'lady, you're home!" cried Nicholas' favorite steward as he passed her in the hallway.

"Indeed I am! This is my niece, Lucetta. Will you round up the children and my husband and have them meet us in the parlor? I have a bit of news."

"Of course, m'lady." He nodded to acknowledge them both and Augustine showed Lucetta to the parlor, instructing her to take a seat wherever she pleased.

Mid-March, 1046
Late Afternoon

It was truly a Sundrili affair. The floors had been mopped and swept to a glistening sheen and the table waxed to an inch of their lives. Cutlery shone as torch light flickered off their surfaces. Though the air was smokey from the torches, the smoke itself was a mixture of delicate, spring scents courtesy of the small satchels of dried herbs set over each torch. As the evening continued, they would burn and release different parts of the scent. At the moment of banquet began, the scent was light and floral almost refreshing.

The hall itself had been decorating with silks draped up the stone pillars before swooping between the rafters. The tables were set in a box fashion with those favored by the queen placed more closely to the dais where the queen would eat. Usually she sat at a rectangular table in the middle of it, her chair having a space on either side to show none was equal with her. While others might eat at her table, they were not meant to think themselves there for any other reason than because she willed it. However, tonight, there was one crucial difference: there was a chair near hers.

This chair was not ostentatious. If anything, it looked like any other chair in the hall. What made it special though was the fact that it was close enough to Sibeal's chair to draw comment. It didn't entirely fill up one of the spots next to hers, but it came close. When people saw it, they glanced at each other, curious as to who was sitting beside Sibeal. Since Sibeal's chair and the chair beside hers was empty, there was no forthcoming explanation.

Courtiers took their seats, washing their hands from various bowls set around the table, laughing all the while. A few couldn't stop murmuring about the chairs at the head table, their speculation running wildly. Perhaps it was for Artur? Maybe for her sister, Aileen, who had always sat at the head table with her anyway? It would surprise no one if Sibeal pushed the limit for Aileen considering the two were like twins anyway. They might look a different as night and day, but the two clearly might as well have been born from one womb.

"No, no, Lady Aileen's chair is there, see, on the queen's left as always. So who is on her right?"

"Perhaps her uncle's seat?"

"Nay, he sits there all the time and his chair is beside Aileen's tonight."

"Mayhap her cousin, Kona, is visiting. You know how Her Majesty loves her cousin."

"Oh, indeed, loves him well, in fact. Too well, I think. Why else would she bar Lady Evita from joining the court when the girl is old enough now?"

The gossip swirled until, finally, a loud banging on the doors summoned everyone's attention. "Her Majesty, Queen Sibeal Seraphin of Sundaril," came a loud, booming voice. In its wake, the queen strode into the room, her head held high. Her legs were covered in white leather breeches, her leather boots white with robin's egg blue ties along the side. From behind, she looked the feminine ideal: her skirts were dark Seraphin blue studded with pearls and fell in rippling layers, the hem just touching the ground to cover up her boots from the back. It was when she turned and the front was presented that one realized Sibeal was entirely unorthodox. Where the front panel of the dress was supposed to be, the one that showcased a variety of embroidery and a different color scheme would be, there was nothing but her leather breeches and boots to greet the ideas. It was quite shocking to those who hadn't seen her since her coronation where she had, once again, been the picture of femininity in a long dress. Indeed, the only sign that she truly liked feminine fashion was her bodice: a construction with a square neckline that emphasized her tiny waist and mimicked the colors found in her skirt.

Her dark hair had been designed into a playful creation, her thick, black tresses also studded with pearls and threaded through with black ribbon. Worn like a circlet, a sapphire and diamond bandeau worn by her name sake over a hundred year ago made a reappearance from the Seraphin vault.

But perhaps the most astonishing thing of all, more than the jewelry or the breeches or the skirts, was that Sibeal's hand was placed almost shyly on that of a man standing beside her. He was taller than her, with a golden cast to his skin, his coloring suggesting a mixture of western Europan with a more exotic race. He stood beside her and then walked in step with her, Sibeal's face looking strangely proud as she walked from the doors to the chairs at the other end of the hall. People had stood when she had entered the room to invoke respect but as she passed, some couldn't stop themselves from whispering in confusion. Who was the man? No one had ever seen him before. He certainly wasn't a Severalli or any Gavlin they knew. Who was he? Where had he come from?

Sibeal took her hand from his and stood in front of her chair, facing the others. Finally she spoke, her voice loud and deeper to project. When she spoke, it was in Sundrili. "Tonight we dine together to honor the arrival of Prince Zeno Tagaris from the Romani Empire, son of Emperor Ioannes II Tagaris and his...wife...Gabrielle of Farangalia. Welcome, prince, and pace yourself. We have a good many dishes coming to you and a great many entertainments."

She smiled at him and at the group before sitting in her seat. Likewise, the congregation sat and loud chatter broke out. Sibeal sat for a moment, eyeing her guests cautiously, silently, before turning to Zeno with a small smile. "The worst is over, Prince Zeno," she said in Latin, "Now you just have to get through acrobats, a mummer's farce, and dancing. But I'm sure at your father's court you did much the same, yes?"

Just as she finished speaking, the first dishes (soup served in a bread trencher) arrived and were placed with a flourish before the guests. No one had the same shape for a trencher. Sibeal's own was in the shape of a Seraphin unicorn. Glancing at Zeno's, she saw his was a small, sleek hound. "What a strange dog," she noticed, "I wonder why they gave you that one. We don't have dogs like that here."

Archer,

I write this to you so you may know where I am going and why I will not be seeing you for some time. Please, do not write back- it is cause enough for gossip where I am going and I ask that you respect that I need time to myself. I am taking Isaiah with me to Rochford to stay at St. Elijah’s there. I need a time of prayer and solace for myself, and I take it needing to think upon things in my life. God has always been known to heal and guide me through many things. I take Isaiah with me so that I can keep an eye upon him. But do know you have nothing to do with this decision- it was one I made on my own.

I shall write to you when I return home. Good luck on your impending wedding. I wish you the most happiness anyone could offer.

Early January 1046 CE
Rochford, Liston

Cries pierced the dawn as the sun peeked curiously through the lattice window to get a glimpse of what the Countess' troubles had brought her this time. It had snowed hard through the night and the cold winds whipped at the glass and howled. The Count would surely still be sleeping--she had asked specifically that he not be woken. That was her way not to trifle him with the trials of womanhood. Besides which, she feared that if anything untoward happened, it may very well be the last good sleep he got in a long time. She had a quick, but definitely not painless time of it throughout the night. Few people were allowed into the room. Two maids to assist and the midwife. No one else.

And then as the sun crested the horizon like a golden crown, he fought his way into the world with remarkable vigor for an infant. His screams were angry and without weakness. When they announced she had produced a boy, she clutched her maid's arm and laughed with exhausted delirium. She lay back, thanking the heavens while the maids sponged her feverish brow.

There had been talk after Thea had been born--none that anyone allowed the Count to hear, of course--but there had been some who questioned Elsa's presence there. Some who even disliked her. They insisted the girl's birth was unlucky and that this new marriage would bring no happiness or prosperity to Rochford. Even though she'd grown into her role, and the people had come to like her better, a boy ensured that she was not a complete failure. Her husband did not need an heir nor a spare, but she had provided a third and that was more than some women could say.

She held him carefully, assessing his every attribute. He had raven hair like Thea's, like his father had. He screamed furiously against the swaddle of blankets--he would be a handful. Elsa kissed his head and hushed him, patting his back through the cloth. He calmed, but furrowed his brow in a way that reminded her of Tiberius. "Fetch the Count at once, but say nothing of what's happened," she beamed.

"What should we tell him then, m'lady?"

"Tell him I request his presence at once," she gazed down at their newborn son. "And should he ask, tell him that if he does not heed my request, he will sorely regret it."
"And the children?"

"Later. There's no need to wake the whole house.
March 22, 1046
“No. Put it down.” Iris looked at her son who seemed to be picking up everything these days. She spoke to him in her native tongue. That was all he spoke too, having been around her his whole life. She knew Gabriel would eventually learn Listonese but she would teach him that when she was older. Living above the tavern in one of the more spacious rooms of her inn, she kept the boy as well as she could. Gabriel was the only reminder she had left of her own Gabriel and every time she looked into his eyes, she saw her love. Her love that was taken from her before he even had a chance to know he was a father. Iris kissed his head and called for Jane. “Jane! Watch him. I have to tend to the customers. Make sure he gets to bed.”

The three year old was growing too fast. Soon he’d be going everywhere in the tavern. Iris headed back downstairs towards the customers, giving he cook, Alan a nod as she spoke with him about a few of the orders. She went back into the common area. She had the usual amount of customers here. Ever since Callan Howard’s coronation, there had been more people pouring into Liston By the Sea. Iris wasn’t going to complain, it meant more business and more money in her pockets. Still she occasionally got looks and sneers. As soon as she opened her mouth people knew where she was from. Farangalia and Liston had never particularly been on good terms, but Iris knew nothing about that. She was a common girl from Farangalia that came here to give her son a better life.

She had come to forget everything that happened- Gabriel, losing her parents, her livelihood. All that she had was this and Iris was going to work harder than she ever had to make sure she gave her son a better life. Turning towards two new customers that came in, she sent Terese to take their orders. One of the burly men (who looked rather unkempt) however approached her as she was removing some of the dishes from a few seats. “We don’t get lot like you in Liston.”

Iris ignored the comment, giving the man a smile. “Terese will serve you. I have work to do.” Her Listonese heavily accented in Farangalian. That certainly sent the man for a spin, as his expression had changed- almost to one of malice. “We don’t like your lot here.” He growled, a tone of indignation in his voice. Iris only gave him a smile. “Then feel free to leave. I have other customers that need me. This is my establishment you will-“ But the man had grasped her wrist. “Maybe I should show you what we do-“ but then someone had hit him, square in the face and Iris stepped back, avoiding ale getting spilled upon her. She looked at her would be savior.

May 23, 1046

It was her birthday. It was Roselyn Beaumont’s ninth birthday and yet she never felt more alone in her life. She had been stuck here for months with Emma, God Emma and Mary. Mary was at least far more tolerable but sometimes Roselyn felt she was a traitor and sided with Emma sometimes just to irk her. She always knew how to get under her skin. But with her mother away in prayer, presumably at a nunnery Roselyn felt more neglected than ever. Her father was busy with work at the capital and so she was left to celebrate here with the other girls. It was a day like any other with their lessons but now that it was almost dinner and was starting to grow hot outside, she sat by the widow on the sill, her dress folded around her.

There was a book that was in her lap, long ago discarded. The Bible. That was all she ever read. It was all her Mama said she needed to read. One of the other girls told her she didn’t need to read so much but what did they understand? Nothing. The Bible was the only place she knew that had good things in it. All the other stories were rubbish. Her hand went up to the crucifix on her neck, the one her mother had given her. All she had gotten for her birthday was another gift, a letter enclosed with more hair ribbons and a locket with a painting of Anne Beaumont in it. She never truly felt like her mother was happy with her. She was sure Mama preferred Emma, Emma who even just looked like her. Roselyn saw that she looked like her father, a Beaumont and her mother didn’t understand she wanted to do more and see more.

She knew she had to act like a lady and remain demure and polite. She did that, but she also had a voice too didn’t she? A voice her mother said had to be quiet unless spoken to by her father or someone asked her. Where was her mother now? Ignoring her, forgetting her. She tucked her legs up against her chest, hugging them as she looked outside the window. It was her birthday.

But Roselyn didn’t feel happy. Not at all.

Edwin Beaumont
Count of Tarin

Husband,

I only write to tell you that I am not at home. I have travelled to Rochford to stay at the Nunnery at St. Elijah’s- only so that I can clear my mind. I have taken Isaiah with me, as I see it fit to have my son beside me during this time. I cannot forgive you for what have done throughout the years of our marriage, as I am sure that you cannot forgive me for what I have done to you. I have done nothing but attempt to be the wife you wanted me to be but God saw it fit that you loved another. I only wanted a place in your heart, but even that seems elusive now Edwin. I intend to stay here throughout the coming months to reflect upon things. I know this may sound selfish of me, but I need the solace of God and prayer and to help clear my mind. It will do me good I think to be amongst the Lord’s presence and here will give me a place to think nestled alongside the ocean. Do not worry- I will be taken care of here. I go of my own accord as I know you would approve of it.

I need time and space from you Edwin. We have never truly known each other and perhaps that is how things shall always be. I do not know. I will return to you by August and we shall talk then. Give the girls my love for me and apologize to Roselyn for me for missing her birthday. I shall send her a gift when the time comes but let them know I love them and that I am seeking solace in prayer. Our daughters will understand.

April, 1046--

“My lord, you have frightened me.”

Her voice was taut and her hand was placed over her heart in a display of surprise, the other grasping the banister of the staircase. He made his descent from the landing, meeting the housemaid on the middle step. Placing his hand beneath her chin, he tilted it upward and looked directly into her eyes. “How old are you?” She blushed and then smirked, looking to each side to make sure they were alone as she bit her bottom lip, “I’ve only just turned sixteen a fortnight ago. Why do you ask?” He placed a hand on her waist, pulling her closer to him and smiling, “Lord Lystar has requested my attendance at Easter supper and has given me permission to bring a guest—I had thought I would attend alone until I saw you. I should like to impress them all by having the most illustrious woman in Sundaril at my side. What say you?” He pulled her even closer, their bodies now touching as he caressed her hair with his free hand.

“I should like that very, very much.” She smirked again, her hand moving towards his own before he moved it away. “It is much too soon for that, my dear. Shall I take you to Lady Carys so that she may dress you? I trust that, as nothing more than a simple housemaid, you have nothing suitable for dinner. She is more than willing to help make this dinner that we celebrate the rising of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ an even more enjoyable occasion for you.” The girl nodded solemnly, no hesitation in her actions as she took Amren’s hand and allowed him to lead her back up the stairs and towards Lady Carys’s chambers. “Forgive me for being frank, but I must know—are you pure?” The girl stopped, looking at him curiously. Amren continued, attempting to reassure the girl, “Fear not, any secrets you may have are safe with me.” Her face softened again as she smiled, “I am, m’lord, though I will not lie to you—I have been kissed before, only once.”

“Would you like to be kissed again?”

“What?” She asked, breathless.

“You heard me.” Amren smiled, continuing to lead her down the corridor.

They reached Lady Carys’s chambers. He released the girl’s hand, knocking lightly on the door before opening it and poking his head in. “My lady, I have found our dinner guest. Might you come and take a look at her and see if we can make her presentable for our celebration this evening?” He turned back, winking before yet again focusing on Lady Carys. “She is fair-haired and skinned like yourself, so I assume we shall not struggle to find something to complement such beautiful coloring.” Though shocked by the way the Lystar family celebrated the rising of Christ each spring initially, it was something that Amren had grown to enjoy as the family gathered together as one and joined in an ancient family tradition. It made him feel at home.
Pip had spent some cold winter nights without her Grouchwood, but whenever she missed him too much she looked at the letters. She’d asked her eldest son to come in and speak to her today. Was he going to stay with Prince Brion’s guard or join King Callan’s? Pip would honestly have preferred for Rhys Three to part of Callan’s guard because Callan was the one in power…and Brion reminded her of the Rhys and Alys business too much. She didn’t believe he was Rhys’s son despite some rumors. Pip was still in pain from gossip and doubted she would ever heal. All she could do was keep going. Why were women judged strong for how they handled losses, while men were judged by what they accomplished?
She barely knew what Rhys’s plans had been for the children. Little Rhys was still betrothed to the very strange Seymour girl. The girl’s father had reportedly wanted to break it off because of the Rhys and Alys business. If it would have released their family from association with the Seymours, Pip would have been fine with it. However, the count had a change of heart and had left the match intact. Oh well. Pip wanted to check to make sure it's what her son wanted.

It was all up to her now.

Early January 1046
The Grand Hill

Papa was feeling better again and had returned to court. He’d brought Peter with him. Same rules applied as usual. Today, however, Peter Seymour, who was going to turn thirteen in April, had lied to his father. He had promised not to leave the palace grounds. But, while in the gardens, Peter had an idea. He’d just explore for a little while and come back. It wouldn’t be long, right? He’d snuck through the halls of the palace like he and Madeline had the night of the dinner with their uncle and arrived outside. The sentries were at their posts and the streets were busy. It was dizzying. He’d stayed close to his mother on visits to the market. He’d gone to court events with a large amount of people attending, also in the company of his parents. Parties back at Corly had never consisted of so many people. He bit his lip and looked around. All right. Just for a little while.

He was walking around the Grand Hill by himself. Wait until he told Hugh! The townhouse was around here somewhere. He waved to people walking by. He thought he recognized one of the servants from the townhouse, but he wasn’t sure. He wondered if Robert knew he was gone yet. Hopefully not. It was cold outside but not terribly so.

Everything was grand until Peter found himself in a part of the area he didn’t know. Well, this was where a lot of people he knew lived, so it shouldn’t be too bad. He was sure, though, that he shouldn’t have lied. Something bad was going to happen and he wouldn’t be able to get back. This was so stupid! Why had he done this? Maybe he should go directly to the cathedral and confess that he’d wandered off. At this point standing in the middle of the street seemed like a good idea.

May 1046

Five years after the date of Eleanor Pewter's marriage to Gregory Gavlin, she was still in the same situation as she had been then. Each day, Eleanor would worry about the troubles that would come the same night, a result of Gregory's 'love-making' to her. Although many commoners would have loved to have a life of riches and Eleanor should consider herself lucky, she was unable to think about this after the pain that came to her every day. Gregory would expect Eleanor to be undressed and ready for him to make love to her at the same time every night, without fail. This had been the case since her marriage to Gregory, the night they had made love with everyone still around her. She had cried herself to sleep that night, and no one would ever know of her pains...

Today was much the same, although Gregory had decided that he would take it upon himself to make love to Eleanor mid-morning. After all, he had said, it was their wedding anniversary and should be filled with love. This had pained Eleanor more than she would have ever admitted to him or anyone. Regularly, he family would ask her whether everything was alright and whether she was being treated well, which would of course be answered with a brisk nod and a smile. She could never tell them what she was actually feeling. Many wives were treated like this, she had been told. It was a fact of life and the Lady would have to learn to deal with it. However, the more Gregory 'made love' to Eleanor, the more she wished that her life could change. Eleanor had not been born to serve purpose to a man's needs. She was supposed to do something with the life she had been given by God, and one day, she vowed that she would.

Lying on her bed with nothing but some sheets covering her bare ivory skin, Eleanor wept for the darkness of her husband's heart. After taking his pleasure, Gregory had announced that he would leave to visit the woods with his men, hunting as usual. This left Eleanor alone to deal with her sores. No one would ever know, but she was beginning to feel broken down there and there was nothing that she could do about it. The tears came out faster now, pouring down her face and soaking into the silken pillows which lay beneath her weary head. Before the marriage, Eleanor had been a young girl, happy to be alive and in love with the prospects of life. She had been filled with energy and would skip through the fields with Clara close at hand. This had all changed on the night of the wedding, when she had learnt of her husband's roughness and carelessness. In only a minute, Eleanor had made the transition from child to woman.

Closing her eyes, Eleanor tried to slow her breathing and think back to a time when she had been happy. Immediately, her head filled with thoughts of Clara and her dear Father, along with every other Pewter. They were a happy family, and would regularly put aside a day to enjoy as a group. Clara would pick the daisies from the grass and hand them to Eleanor as she slit holes in the stems with her nail, looping them together so that she was able to award Clara with a tiara. Those were the days when Eleanor had dreamed about having a husband; a prince who would whisk her away and make her his queen. But now she knew that those fairy tales didn't happen... at least, not to her anyway.

It was when Eleanor heard the sound of someone moving outside that she drew in a breath. Someone was there, either waiting to come in to change the bed sheets, or trying to find out why she was making so much noise. There was also the terrible possibility that said Gregory was there, coming back for another round of 'love making'. This was all too much for Eleanor. But she had to get it together. Quickly, the Lady grabbed hold of a sheet and pulled it around her breast, covering as much skin as possible. "Who's there?" She called, trying to hide the sadness from her voice and wiping the tears away. "Show yourselves!"

St. Valentine's Day, 1046

Not any worse for wear, Archer had left off his mourning for Amelia in order to don his newest doublet. This one was green with silver frogging and black embroidery as Sophia had specified those particular colors. His tailor had run up the outfit while Archer himself was overseeing more pressing matters. Yet the lord was now regretting it his inattention regarding as the clothes were a bit looser than he typically wore. His hat was an utterly ridiculous confection with a garish silver and green hatband. Fluffy white feathers poked out from the brim of the hat as he picked it up. Archer, who admittedly took care to dress appropriately and well on most occasions, thought were utter overkill but the bride herself would view as being just enough. With a sigh, the lord put it on.

A tray of uneaten food sat by the mirror: cheeses, dried fruits and a glass of spiced wine that had hardly been touched. Resigned, but nonetheless convinced the day was a farce waiting to happen, Archer had little appetite for breakfast. Being wed on St. Valentine’s Day was ironic, considering the circumstances. His two daughters were to be dressed in matching gowns and paraded before the assembly, which would please them and assist Archer in finding them husbands perhaps without any further effort. Sophia’s younger sisters and unmarried friends would likewise be donning the same hue as his daughters at the festivities. Despite the irrelevance of such trivial matters, Archer had been assured the matching garments were the height of fashion.

His son had scowled, protested and threatened to rip apart the outfit he was initially to be wearing before Archer had intervened. Sullenly Walter had agreed to be wearing a smaller version of his father’s outfit rather than the foppish one the governess had chosen but was nonetheless making his fury at having to participate in the ceremony known in other ways. The more Archer considered Walter, he found the boy a disappointment as a son and found himself wondering what young Isaiah was like in person even if he had sworn to Anne the secret should stay between them. Her fond descriptions had been glowing, not that he doubted their accuracy but she was a mother and they were by nature prone to exaggeration.

He checked his pocket to be sure the ring hadn’t disappeared. It was two rubies, set as a heart and surrounded by gold wrought to appear as lace. Imagining Elizabeth’s reaction to that jewelry made Archer laugh. Such a gift would please Sophia Clifford, which was its purpose. It was no matter that she was too dense to recall the quote about a dutiful wife being worth more than rubies. Yet if she recognized Aphrodite perhaps her schooling also had included the most popular quote in the entire Bible. Glancing out the window, Archer then discovered a potential crisis.

LORD KIERAN SERAPHIN OF JOLA

B A S I C S

NAME:
Kieran Seraphin

AGE:
Twelve

NATIONALITY:
Sundarili

NATIVE LANGUAGE:
Sundrili

A P P E A R A N C E

PLAY-BY:
Owen Best

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Kieran inherits his looks completely from his father. He is a true born Seraphin with his curly black hair and bright blue eyes.

He stands relatively tall for a boy his age. Once puberty strikes, he might shoot up to be at least six feet, but for now it is uncertain. His hands and feet are slightly disproportionate to the rest of his body--his feet and hands being a little too large.

He is a slender boy, but he's built up lean muscles from constant outdoor activity and recent sword swinging. He would make for a fast fighter.

Like most boys his age, he has scars all over his legs, knees, and hands. There's a long scar spanning from his right ankle to the bottom of his knee--received from a tree climbing mishap a few years ago.

H I S T O R Y

FAMILY TREE:

Prince Aidan Seraphin: Father. Kieran is a little unsure of his relationship with his father at the moment. Ever since he was a child, his father had been an unconstant presence in his life. He was a busy man, that he understood. He knows his father loves him which is clear whenever he is around. But, he doesn't feel the same emotional connection that he feels with his mother. He assumes because of his youth, his father never really cared to get to know him beyond a few pieces of advice or light discipline. Now that he is a little older, Kieran hopes that his father will take a more active role in getting to know him. Especially since his father seems to be more available now than ever after being stripped of the Regency and his lands in The Teeth.

Duchess Anne-Havarilli-Seraphin: Mother. Kieran absolutely adores his mother. While he didn't see much of his father, his mother was always a constant presence. She may not have been there for every day of his life, but if he needed her, he knew he could go to her with anything. Currently, he's a little upset with her for betraying Artur and helping Sibeal get the throne. And to add insult to injury, she serves on her council! More than anything, Kieran is confused, worried, and hurt that she wouldn't tell him anything. At the moment, he wants nothing to do with her until she gives him all the answers he's looking for.

Lady Isolda Seraphin: Sister. Since Isolda was born only a year after Kieran, the two had been close ever since their nursery days. She was his best friend. They played together, studied together, and kept each others' secrets. But now things have changed. They have different lessons, different friends, and different interests. She used to love playing outdoors with him, now she just wants to sit inside and read or sew or play music. He certainly mourns the loss and wishes he could have his sister back. She was his steadfast friend no matter what happened or where they were. But now that they've grown apart, he honestly feels a little lonely.

Lord Diego Seraphin: Brother. There is a six year gap in between Kieran and his little brother. Because of this giant leap in age, he finds he cannot connect with his brother like he could with Isolda. Of course, Diego would never say no to playing outdoors with him, but Kieran feels more like a baby sitter than a playmate. He feels as if he needs to cater to Diego's wishes to keep him interested instead of sharing a common interest like he did with Isolda or even Artur.

Cesario Istatio: Half-brother. Kieran does not know this brother exists yet.

Lysander Istatio: Half-Brother. Kieran does not know this brother exists yet.

King Aldrin Seraphin: Uncle, deceased. Kieran truly idolizes his royal uncle. Kieran finds he can't remember what he was like as a person--he was too young to really notice. But he's built up this image in his mind that King Aldrin was a noble knight and a great king. He will never forget watching him compete in that fateful tournament. His uncle will forever be that agile unicorn and mighty boar he witnessed that day.

Queen Dowager Beatrice Seraphin nee Aucoin: Aunt-in-law. Even though she was the king's second wife, Kieran never knew any other. He was far too young to remember Queen Alys. From what he could remember, she was always fair and sweet to him. He never heard her yell or cause a fuss. He would describe her as always serene.

Queen Sibeal Seraphin: Cousin. Kieran did not know anything about his cousin before she took the throne--beyond the fact that she had been living away from the capital and that Kona was essentially in love with her. But now that she is queen, Kieran absolutely hates her for what she's done. She took away Artur's throne and gave The Teeth to Anrai! As well as supplant his father as Regent in favor of Kieran's uncle! More than anything, Kieran is absolutely furious that she would give away his home to the likes of Anrai. He said as much to Henry and Nolan once, but they immediately cautioned him to watch what he says. Sibeal was queen now and to speak against her is treason.

Lord Artur Seraphin: Cousin. For three years, Kieran had the fortune of being friends with Artur. He was his first male friend even though he was a little serious. He remembered a time when his cousin used to play and be rowdy, but after he became king, he looked so scared half the time. He was always fidgeting and never seemed to stop asking questions. And after a while, he started to act older than he really was--which annoyed Kieran to no end. He wanted a playmate, not a tutor. The two had a bit of a falling out when Kieran finally confronted him about it. He never got the opportunity to make it right because one day, the king and his siblings went missing. And Kieran and his siblings were taken to Jola for their safety.

Lady Niamh Seraphin: Cousin. Kieran spent much of his time with Artur, so he never had the opportunity to get to know Niamh. But whenever they happened to be in the same area, he found he didn't like how much of a brat she was. She screamed and stomped and made a horrible ruckus when she didn't get her way. He tried to steer clear of her whenever he could.

Lord Aldrin Seraphin: Cousin. Aldrin was just a baby the last time Kieran saw him, so he doesn't have much of an opinion of him at the moment.

Aileen Stafford: Cousin. Kieran knows as much about Aileen as he knows about Sibeal. All he knows is that they're always together. He's not really interested in getting to know her at all.

Aldrin Lonsigh: Cousin. He doesn't know he exists yet.

Prince Anrai Seraphin: Uncle. Kieran knows next to nothing about his uncle other than the fact that his parents don't like him and he's now Regent. He has virtually no contact with the man and honestly has no desire to rectify that. He dislikes him just for the simple fact that he now owns The Teeth and took his father's position as Regent.

Princess Sansa Seraphin nee Greystone: Aunt-in-law, deceased. Because of her association with Anrai, Kieran never had an opportunity to get to know her. But whenever they happened to be together, he found he liked her. She was kind to all the children.

Lord Kona Seraphin: Cousin. Kieran doesn't like how his cousin tends to ignore him when their other cousins are around. He knows Kona thinks he's boring--he's said so on numerous occasions--and often tries to show him that he's not. He likes to play just like the others. He may not be as smart as them, but he's always up for physical play. However, after the current state of affairs, Kieran wants absolutely nothing to do with Kona. He knows it's not his fault that his father and Sibeal did what they did, but he can still dislike him.

Lady Rhoswen Seraphin: Cousin. Kieran makes sure to steer clear of his cousin as much as possible. He's incredibly glad that she doesn't live in the capital anymore. He honestly hopes she stays in Isularie and never comes back. She gives him chills any time she's near. Her moodiness honestly scares him and he wants absolutely nothing to do with her.

Lady Sorcha Seraphin: Cousin. Like his brother, Sorcha is very young so Kieran finds it a little taxing sometimes to play with her. The focus always seems to shift to the younger children's wants and needs and if they're not catered to, dire consequences will be had.

Lord Tiernan Seraphin: Cousin. Tiernan is too young for Kiernan to have an opinion on the baby's character.

Duke Nolan Redalan: Cousin. Kiernan enjoys Nolan's company solely for the fact that he easily follows orders.

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS:

An Heir is Born: Lord Kieran Seraphin is born at the Havarilli estate in Jola during the summer of 1034 to Prince Aidan Seraphin and Duchess Anne Havarilli-Seraphin, ten months after their prestigious marriage.

Sundaril in Ashes: Later that year, the capital is set ablaze by the Listonese. Fortunately, Kieran and his mother were safely away in Jola at the time. His father and other family members were thankfully unharmed and survived the inferno.

Hello, My Friend: Just a year later in 1035, the family welcomes a daughter named Isolda. Kieran is only one year old at the time, but it was evident the two would become close. Whenever the infant cried, her protective brother crawled into her crib to keep her company.

The World Awaits Thee: The little lord quickly discovers the outside world. Even on hands and knees, Kieran was the avid adventurer; sliding down stairs or slowly scaling them, or making historic discoveries (such as the dead toad found in the garden or the little mouse hiding under his crib). His stalwart pursuits only increased when the child learned to walk at the age of two. Many a nurse was fired for letting their charge out of their sights.

A Father and Brother Lost: In February 1037, Prince Aidan goes missing in a shipwreck off the coast of Italia. With no body to be found, he was presumed drowned. The news of her husband's fate caused Duchess Anne to miscarry the child growing within her. Kieran and Isolda are moved to the capital where they will be cared for by King Aldrin and Queen Beatrice until their mother recuperates. Kieran meets his cousins for the first time. Most he gets a long fine with, but his least favorite was Rhoswen. She was the same age as Isolda, but was absolutely nothing like his sister. Her wild moods frightened him and he made sure to stay clear of her. He instead took a liking to Nolan Redalan and Prince Artur.

Can We Be Friends?: Though Kieran is two years older, he and Prince Artur are fast friends. As the royal prince is learning to walk (and fall), Kieran is constantly there to take his hands and help him back up. Not exactly his first words, but Artur quickly learns to shout the syllables in his cousin's name.

Return of the Fallen Prince: Miraculously in 1039, word has traveled to the capital that Prince Aidan is alive! Duchess Anne leaves her children in the capital to reunite with her husband. Kieran is overjoyed that his father has returned, though he is unsure of where he has been all this time. "Dead" must have been a very long way off.

Hello, Little One: Nine months later, the family welcomes another child--a son named Diego. Kieran quickly takes to being an older brother again, endeavoring to teach him his numbers and to sing the alphabet.

Death Comes In All Flavors: In March 1041, a plague strikes Sundaril. Horrifically, numerous nobility and commoners alike perish. Kieran must say goodbye to his cousins as the family moves to Jola for their safety.

Oh The Things You Will Do One Day: While at Skibo, Kieran and Isolda meet their new governess. They are to be taught difficult things like reading, writing, and grammars--and Kieran hates it all. At every chance, he evades his governess to play outside. But every time he is apprehended and brought before his mother for punishment. Eventually, she sits him down to explain why lessons are important. He's not a baby anymore. He has to learn how to be grown up because one day he will be Duke. He must understand his responsibilities as heir.

Trees Aren't Friends: One day in 1042 while his governess is ill with a cold, Kieran capers around Isolde Palace and climbs an old tree. He remembers the groundskeeper telling him not to climb this particular tree, but he can't remember the reason. It must have been silly since it was perfectly sturdy and Kieran had climbed numerous trees before. However, as he climbs, an old branch snaps under his weight. He would have smacked the ground incredibly hard had he not caught himself just before reaching the bottom. However, his quick efforts cost him a massive gash spanning from his ankle to the bottom of his knee. Thankfully his breeches prevented the wound from being too deep, but the wound required quite a few stitches.

A Royal Tournament: In August of 1043, Kieran and his family travel to the capital to attend a tournament, held in honor of the king's health. Now nine years old, Kieran desperately wants to join the festivities, but he and his siblings are ushered into the royal box with their mother. Words could not describe how excited he was to watch his father joust in full armor. It was truly everything like his nurse had told them as bedtime stories. From this moment on, Kieran knew he wanted to be a knight. However the gallant display quickly spiraled into chaos when his uncle, King Aldrin was horrifically maimed by a large wooden splinter through the eye. Kieran was not allowed to see what happened afterwards, but he did not have to wait long to hear the news of his uncle's death.

There's A New King In Town: Soon after, little Artur was crowned King of Sundaril and Prince Aidan named as his Regent. Kieran was sad that such circumstances thrust his favorite cousin into such responsibility. His mother told him he should be happy that his cousin was king, but all Kieran could feel was a sense of loss. Though Artur was still available to play, he had changed. Artur was no longer the little boy he could race or fish or play ball with--he was a king.

Phantom: On his tenth birthday, his father gives him a black Border Collie puppy as a birthday gift. The pup immediately reminds him of stories his nurse used to tell about Black Dogs who brought sinners' souls to hell. He truly wanted to name him Demon, but his mother would never allow that so he settled on Phantom instead. He endeavors to make Phantom into a fierce and loyal watchdog one day. But for now, he's just too friendly.

Is That Rebellion I Smell?: At the beginning of 1045, Artur and his siblings go missing and Kieran overhears talk of "Princess Isabel". Kieran had met his cousin only once before and knows virtually nothing about her, but people say that she plans to become queen. A few months later, his mother moves the family back to Jola again and Kieran is left wondering what in the world was going on. He tries to ask for answers, but his mother does not answer them and his father is all the way back in the capital. Eventually, his mother leaves Jola to presumably join their father in the capital. However, once the children are brought back in July, Sibeal is sitting on the throne and his father is in disgrace. The Teeth has been given to Anrai as well as the Regency. Utterly confused and worried sick for his cousin Artur, Kieran pesters his parents constantly for answers. Where was Artur? Why was Sibeal queen? Why does Sibeal hate his father? What did his father do? And why were his parents not speaking?

RELATIONSHIPS:

Lord Henry Greystone: Friend. The two boys met at the tournament for the king in 1043. Kieran's cousin Kona introduced the boy to him. Apparently the child was his uncle, though Kieran had no clue how that was supposed to work. Since their friendly dispositions were similar, they were quick to become friends. After Artur became king, Kieran and Henry became closer and sort of took Artur's place as Kieran's best friend. They lost touch a bit after Kieran and his family moved back to Jola, but Kieran still holds quite a fondness for the boy.

Phantom: Border Collie pup. When humans let him down, Kieran always knows he can rely on his Phantom. The dog is incredibly loyal to him and constantly active. When Kieran starts to feel lonely, Phantom is always there to cheer him up. At the moment, the dog still acts as a puppy, but one day Kieran wants to turn him into an intimidating hound who strikes cold fear into man's heart--like the Black Dogs he's named after.

A D D I T I O N A L I N F O

Ever the adventurer, Kieran adores being physically active and playing outdoors. Why would he sit indoors reading musty old books when he could be outside swimming or climbing trees or swinging wooden swords? Kieran is absolutely at his happiest with the sun on his face and the wind in his hair.

His head filled with tales of gallant knights and viscous beasts of old, life is just one giant story book for him. What use has he for foreign tongues or the names of stars he'll never touch?

His favorite pastimes are marbles, horse racing, wrestling, wooden swordplay, falconry, and hunting (though he's started that only recently). He also enjoys a good bawdy comedy, though his mother never lets him attend the theater. His father only took him once and afterwards his mother made such a fuss that he was never allowed back again.

Ever the sweet and friendly boy, Kieran never cared about his social position before. He doesn't entirely understand just how important he is and how powerful he could eventually become. However, with Queen Sibeal humiliating their family and destroying his chances of ever being Lord of The Teeth, Kieran may soon find out just how powerful he could really be.

He's quiet and a little bookish, but it's clear that he's eager to please his cousins--even though he's a year older. Kiernan loves to boss him around and tease him over the fact that he's grown taller than him in the last few months.

Marquess Rian Mordonne: Cousin. Kieran does not yet know his cousin. But there is talk of him coming to court. He is incredibly interested in meeting him one day.

PHYSICAL DETAILS:

Rian has the classic Seraphin dark sapphire blue eyes a gift, from his beloved mother, that shines bright in contrast to his porcelain face. His hair is a dark sandy blonde, as a youth his hair flowed longer than now had slight wavy curls though as he has matured he has decided to keep it cut shorter hiding his curls and making his hair look straight.

Half-way there, Rian is still growing in the body of mature young adult. At 5’9” Rian is still a gangly teen, his chest is filling out but his arms and legs seem to behind in gaining the mass of the rest of his growing body.

Rian dresses far simpler than you would expect a man of his status on his day to day operations saving the more vibrant tight fitting tunics and hoses for official court appearances. He is often seen doing his day to day business in his manor in leggings and a white undershirt. When court beckons and more fashionable clothing is needed, it would be less vibrant and would show a lack of female guidance in the latest fashions for men.
For a noble man of 15 you would expect his hands to be as soft as a feather, however his love of archery and playing of the lute has left his hands callused as if he had been low born and had to do an honest work in his life.

Above his left eyebrow is a small curved scar, he received when he was 12 after being thrown from his horse and crashing his head upon a rock. Dozens of scars line his back from the two severe lashings he received as a child for disobedience and ill behavior.

FAMILY TREE:

Philippe Mordonne: His father died to early on for Rian to really miss him but he does miss the guidance that would have come from his father and wishes that they had been able to have more time together so that he could have really known the kind of man that Philippe Mordonne had been.

Julius Harvarilli: His biological father deceased, of which he knows nothing about and thus has no feeling regarding him

Princess Aoife Redalan, nee Seraphi His mother he loves the concept of his mother despite never truly knowing her as he was but a babe when she passed giving birth to his half-brother. Though he knows many stories about her and the beauty and kindness that flooded any room she entered.

Duke Nolan Redalan: His Brother well half-brother. He deeply loves his half-brother despite the competitive nature that they share, whatever Nolan does Rian feels he must top it.

Duchess Anne Havarilli-Seraphin: Aunt, not that he knows this as he has no clue who his true father is

Lord Artur II Seraphin: He’s Rian’s cousin never met as of yet, but believes that he is the rightful king as the pope should not have the right to decide if a marriage is valid or not

Queen Sibeal Seraphin: Cousins, has yet to meet her but wants to, she is a ray of hope that could allow him out of his marriage contract. In all honesty, he doesn’t belive his cousin should be on the throne despite the Pope saying that the marriage between Aldrian and her mother was valid, he disagrees with the Pope’s claim that their marriage was still valid. Though he has heard rumors that she is a just and kind queen, he sees her an usurper as the true king is her half-brother

Emril Mordonne:Uncle deceased, vial a lout a disgrace to the family name a fool who wasted a good portion of their fortune a complete and utter embarrassment is how Rian feels about his uncle, especially figuring he at one time suffered the vices of his uncle but managed to surpass it.

Marian Mordonne:Wife of emril Mordonne decease, another disgrace upon his name and somehow double fold that of her husband, being a witch, thankfully he shares not blood with her

Lady Niamh Seraphin: Cousin never met her

Lord Aldrin Seraphin Cousin never met him

Prince Aidan Seraphin His uncle never met him

Lord Kieran Seraphin Cousin has never met him

Lady Isolda Seraphin Cousin never met him

Prince Anrai Seraphin His uncle has never met him but has heard rumors of the malicious between him and the late King and hopes that he can use this to his advantage to help get his marriage contract annulled.

Lord Kona Seraphin Cousin has never met him

Lady Rhoswen Seraphin Cousin has never met her

Lady Sorcha Seraphin Cousin has never met her

BIRTH DATE:
May 1st 1031

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS:

Birth: On May 1st 1031 a beautiful baby boy with excellent lungs and willing to use them was born to Princess Aoife Redalan, nee Seraphi, and Philippe Mordonne or so he thought.

Father’s Gone and what does this mean?:June 3rd 1032, A one year old Rian attends his murdered father’s funeral not understanding what it all means for him.

By Mommy 1033, Rian is greeted with a baby brother, which would have been a delight for this two year old if not for his mother dying during birth. Rian cried for two days straight following the death of his mother despite his servants and Michael Redalan, now his legal guardian, trying to console him. Eventually the crying from his quarters ceased as the boy began to learn to live without his mother.

Boy I love This horse: January 9th 1034, The first time Rian ever remembers ridding his father’s horse Ruby. Though he loved the thrill of riding on the horse with steward, the idea of it being his father’s horse made a brilliant smile come across the fatherless boy’s face.

I’m to marry this girl? No thank you. September 8th 1036 his guardian Michael Redalan finally informs him of a royal decree stating that he must marry Corrine Severalli. Michael then goes on to explain to him how this is a major insult for him as the blood of kings and queens run through his blood. Listening to every word his guardian said, Rian understood how he was supposed to feel and act toward the situation of being forced to marry a lowborn who he did not love or even know. He starts seeing the betrothal as a slap in the face not just at his house but directly at him. He tries to understand why the King would have such vile hatred for him despite never meeting him.

Music I will never love it until I do June 8th 1038, Rian hates the music lessons that his Guardian is forcing him to play. The lute seems so tedious and the cords are blistering his fingers and he just can’t seem to get it right. After a temper tantrum and throwing the Lute across the room, a young Rian storms out of the room. Naturally, Michel did not appreciate the embarrassment of Rian’s actions towards his music teacher and sets about punishing the boy with a severe whipping. At first Rian takes resentment to the punishment as he had never seen his younger brother punished in such ways and boldly states so. Michel then goes on to explain to the boy that his brother had never done anything worth such a punishment and that as he matures he will learn that he needs to learn the consequences of his actions. He then goes on to explain to the child that there is always a better way of handling a problem instead of letting his frustrations overcome him. Seeing the opportunity, Rian asks to stop music practice to which he is quickly denied and is told that he will later learn to love the lute.

Rian goes back to the study of the lute each day Michel visits him and encourages him in an almost fatherly way, which encourages Rian to practice harder. As the blisters turn to firm calluses allowing him to feel no more pain, he begins to improve and soon learns a great love for the lute. As others begin commenting on his talent and taking the time to listen to him play Rian begins to appreciate his Guardian for not letting him drop the art of music.

Now this beats latin: August 15th 1040, After countless hours of struggling over books in Latin, his guardian Michel takes him out for archery practice, Rian finds stringing a bow intoxicating and utterly relaxing but enjoys spending one on one time with Michel who he has started seeing as his surrogate father.

I love you brother, but I must be better August 21st 1042, Despite the love he had for his brother and the enjoyment he had when they spent time together, he always felt that as he was not Michel’s son he had to try harder to earn his affection. If Nolan shot a bulls eye he had to shoot two, if Nolan said a just one phrase in perfect Latin, Rian had to cite a whole paragraph. Now normally sibling rivalry is a good thing it encourages improvement of oneself other times it can cause you to loss control of yourself when you lose to you little brother.
Rian and his brother had been playing together at swords in front of Michel and despite Rian being stronger and faster, he lost his footing allowing Nolan to get the advantage. Anger, resentment, and humiliation was what he was feeling when he got up from the ground and cheap shot his little brother over the head knocking him to the ground.
Naturally, Rian did not receive praise for his action; no he received the second whipping of his life far more severe than the first one. As the lashing went on his guardian scolded him saying in this world if you can’t count on your own family to not stab you in your back, then who can you expect to trust. On top of lashing Rian spent the next three days writing the passage of the bible where Cain killed Abel. Writing the passage made Rian feel even more guilt for losing control of his anger and harming his little brother to which to which he had felt immediate regret after assaulting him
Rian vowed to never raise his hand against his beloved little brother and knew that there was nothing he could do to make up for what he had done, other than be a better brother.

Ya, I’ll ignore you, you know you like the bad boy not that I want you: 1043 June 3rd He meets Corrine Severalli for the first time. Though he tries to be courteous, he just can’t help but feel slighted just being in her presence. The feelings he was taught to feel at five are amplified, as he is truly old enough to understand what is going on. The marriage is nothing more than a ploy by the king to lower his house’s standing so that he could never make a claim to the throne. Not that he had any true claim to the throne and he knew this he was just the son of the King’s sister and yet he was being forced into this marriage. Rian spends most of his time effectively avoiding Corrine whenever possible and only speaking the bare minimum courteous words when necessary.

I Loved him so much: January 9th 1044 Tears stream down Rian’s face as he attends Michel Redalan’s funeral. This is when his faith in God waivered as to why the man, that he had loved like his own father, had to die so early on. He ended up getting drunk and in a fit of rage over his God’s rage toward his family, and for leaving him all alone in the world he sets fire to his servant’s quarters. Fortunately, for Rian no one was harmed in the fire, and with the help of his loyal steward he managed to cover it up blaming the incident on a fallen candle.

Following in his uncle’s footsteps: November 12th 1044 Rian has spent the last ten months in a drunken bout of self-pity, living a life a disgrace and decadence Rian spent his money on all sorts of evil women and rarely attended any public functions. Despite his loyal steward warning him not to drink and stating that he was acting the fool like his deceased Uncle Emeril , Rian refused to heed his words. It was the words of his brother that brought him back from the brink of self-destruction. It took Nolan reminding him that he too had lost his father and he needed his brother. After coming out of his drunken stupor Nolan’s words still echoed in his head, Rian poured all of the liquor out of the house and spent the next week locked in his room seeing no one as he fought the relentless urge to drink.

It’s hard without you but I’m managing just fine with my family. January 18th 1045 Rian is couping with being sober and the loss of his substitute father but time where walking through the snow with Nolan and Duchess Bridget Redalan make the days easier as he does not want to lose anyone else that he holds dear to his heart.

I had consumption some thought I’d die but I didn’t: April 23rd 1045, Rian has been bedridden with consumption for weeks now and the doctors said that he is most likely to die. That is the moment when his faith was renewed. His doctor a closet protestant gave him some literature to read as he was bedridden. through reading the protestant pamphlet his hatred for God that had come into his heart following Michel Nolan’s death was renewed with an unwavering faith. A few weeks later his health slowly began to recover to the full health he once had and soon was strong enough to once again pull back a bow.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Betrothed's name: Corrine Severalli His Betrothed and he hates it. Yes he admits she is fair to look at but every time he sees her or talks to her it reminds him of the continual insult that he must indure.

Sebastian Winchester: Rian’s loyal steward, and trusted confident, Sebastian had served his father and himself faithfully for many years adding to the amount of trust Rian places in Sebastian. If anyone could be considered a surrogate father for Rian after Michel Redalan’s passing it would be Sebastian.

Duchess Bridget Redalan: Not one of his closest relationships but he does have a fondness for her not only as the woman who helped to take care of him at times but as a friend of sorts.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Ambitions:
To get out of his marriage with Corrine Severalli
To produce many sons and daughters to expand his dying family name
To Increase his station and his role in the country

Fears:
Becoming an Alcoholic lout like his uncle Emril Mordonne
Being found out for his protestant beliefs
Being forced to take the insult and going through with his betrothal with Corrin Severalli.
Losing control of his anger and killing someone unjustly again

Likes:
Archery
Playing the Lute
The calming quite of his manor
Taking a bite of the first ripe apple of the season
Snow, not really sure why he likes it, snow is cold slows down his horse and yet there is something calming about ridding through the woods in the dead of winter.

Dislikes:
The modern restrictive fashions he is forced to wear at court
Insults to his family name
Paperwork and day to day business; He’d much rather being shooting arrows, playing his Lute or ridding through his apple orchards

Deep, Dark Secret:
He might be 15 but he already has three secrets. He is protestant as already stated so not much reason to go into that one. The other secret is far darker and comes from the days following his guardian’s death. He tore through his lands in a never ending drunk stupor most of the time. He beat a stranger to death after hearing him make a comment how he was nothing but a drunken lout and that he was doing making his drunken fool of an Uncle proud following in his footsteps. After covering up the murder, Rian felt no true remorse for what he had done until after renewing his faith in the protestant religion. Now he feels immense remorse for all that he had done.
The other one could end up getting him killed just to silence him in case he ever made an attempt on it. Rian is royalty, old royalty directly related to the Last Moreau king. Not that he would ever make a claim on that as the Seraphin dynasty is strong; Moreau claim is long forgotten now and even speaking of this ancient bloodline would probably get him killed on the spot.

Overall:
Rian is leagues from being simple and even farther from being complex; he is someone in the middle ground of a boy who is still coming to grips with being all alone with no one to really guide him any more with the passing of Michel Redalan. Without guidance from his family Rian has been forced to learn what it means to be a head of a dying family and struggles with his own inner demons as he tries to bring his household to greater glory than any other Marquees has been able to accomplish while trying to restore the dishonor brought to his house by his uncle and his whore of a wife.

Elegant dinner parties, days at court, are all a chore for Rian. Thou his façade would show he attends all of these functions with enthusiasm and noble grace he finds them tedious even if necessary to accomplish his goals in life. Lazy is not a word that could ever be used to describe Rian but he does like to take the time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life, such as enjoying a freshly baked apple pie with a close friend or just riding for endless hours through the woods.

Fits of rage, are definitely one of his demons though far easier for him to control since he now refrains from more than one glass of wine or pint of ale, in a setting. This is not due to his new found faith in God. More fear to whom he would harm, if he allowed his inner monster to storm forth once again.

Despite how he feels about being betrothed to Corrine, he is a romantic at heart. He dreams of the day that he may choose to marry whoever he wishes regardless of class. Despite how it may sound if you ask him, it is not Corrine’s class that offends him but that he is being forced to marry below him without a true cause to want to be with her. As a closet romantic, he is offended that there is no true political reason to marry below his noble status. Rian thus believes he should be allowed to marry someone who he actually cares about or in the least a good political match.

AGE:
21! That’s right I’m legal muddafudda’s

EXPERIENCE:
About 5 haven’t a little rusty haven’t role-played for about a year.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:

The clattering and clacking of hooves sounded as strong black stallion rode along the gravel path. Mounted on the horse, was a well fit figure, not excessively large or built but strong and healthy. A gleaming smile shone on his face as he forced the horse faster. One hand gently held the reigns off the horse well his left held his bow.

Hunting and riding, one of his truly greatest enjoyments in life, the freedom of ridding full speed down a path until he would finally arrive at a small pond to where he would wait for hours if necessary in utter silence except for the chirping of birds, the thumping of rabbits and the chattering of squirrels. Till finally he would spot a deer and in that brief moment he would be in control of everything, the exact moment that the gentle and beautiful creature would draw its last breath would be his choice.

But all of that would be latter, for now he had to get to that spot, so that latter tonight he may partake in one of the sweetest meats, in the land, venison had always been his favorite since childhood but it never tasted the same if he got it from someone else, it always seemed the flavors were more vibrant when he bit into a piece of meat that he had hunted.

The Wind flew through his hair as he raced to his spot, the wind rushing in his face brought an exciting rush to Rian, it was good to be home doing what he loved to do. He had spent the last week in court handling all sorts of affairs, giving out loans to some collecting from others, he had been busy enough and then who would he just happen to run into, he should have known it always seemed to happen as if the girl had a sixth sense about him.

He had barely said more than five words to the Severalli girl as he had quickly blown her off stating that he was overburdened with work currently but hoped that they could find time to talk later. Not that any of that was really true but it usually worked so that he could slip away from her. Hopefully he would be permanently rid of her soon, with a new Queen the royal order for their wedding could be overturned and given a better arrangement or allowed to find his own bride.

He pulled the reigns in slowing his horse as he neared the pond, but all of that would be later much later for today all he should be thinking about was his bow, the arrow and the deer that would be his meal tonight. No need to get excited at could bes; miss his mark and be forced to eat left over stew.
Above his left eyebrow is a small curved scar, he received when he was 12 after being thrown from his horse and crashing his head upon a rock. Dozens of scars line his back from the two severe lashings he received as a child for disobedience and ill behavior.

NAME:
Neil

AGE:

"I am going to marry a Prince Sansa." Eleanor told her best friend as she danced around the tree. PHYSICAL DETAILS:
Cuán is a man with long blonde hair that rests at his shoulders. He keeps it constantly pinned back in a pony tail but it is often unkempt. It was once short but since his wife’s death he has barely gotten it cut. He always has scruff on his face and never goes completely clean shaven. He only has been known to shave his beard when it comes to formal occasions or celebrations and the like. A muscled and toned warrior, Cuán bears the marks and scars from battle. He has gone on many a hunt and has scars across his chest, arms and legs. His hands are thoroughly calloused from holding a sword or even a bow and arrow. His most well known scar is a gash across his left eye from losing a challenge to a warrior that challenged him in a strength completion- the man cut him with a blade. Cuán wears it like a badge of honor.

He stands at an average height for a man, but he is powerfully built. Cuán has broad shoulders and muscles. Between hunting and doing manual labor, he has gotten a physique that is completely toned. He has massive bulk to him, so much so that Cuán looks like a man you do not want to tangle with. His eyes however are his most telling feature. They are a light blue and show far more grief than someone his age should know. After the death of his wife and child, his appearance has become a bit more disheveled. He is covered in some kind of dirt usually and is not very clean. He doesn’t seem to have an odor or he masks it with wine or some other drink he is currently drinking.

Cuán is constantly seen in plain furs, leather and pants. He has had most of his clothing made from cotton and furs from animals he had caught. His favorite possession is a cloak made of a wolf’s pelt he had killed himself. He is very proud of this and will only wear it at fine occasions. He is a simple man and dresses so. Cuán has never found the need to dress pretty like those southern lords he has heard things about.

Siobhan Tighe: A village healer and prophetess, Siobhan and Cuán have a close relationship, as she is a noted to have an astounding connection with nature and healing and has given Cuán many hints about what is in store for his fate when he is older. He is her only child and as a result, she has showered him with love and affection and he has remained protective of her. Her passing was a great sadness for Cuán.
BIRTH DATE:
March 31, 1017

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS:

"When the leaves fall, the maiden and wolf shall dance in the light of the moon. When the spring flower blooms, the wolf shall take his first breath.": Siobhan Tighe often spent much time in the woods in Cill Mohr. It had been her childhood home, as the Tighes had lived and made the lands home for hundreds of years. Siobhan was the most gifted in her family with healing. Many people came to her for guidance, for it was said she connected with nature itself. She was a child of nature itself- blessed by the gods for not only a healing hand, but for telling the future as well. She had foretold two seasons of drought that would come upon the land- and many knew to heed her words. It was not an uncommon thing for her to spend time in the woods surrounding her home. She often went there to gather herbs. However, that winter had been harsh in particular she was found crazily dancing in the snow, asking for Dana to heed her words. She had said she had seen a wolf in the fall, the wolf who had come to her who had been disguised as a man. He had been Murrchad, disguised as a wolf who had transformed into a mortal man. She had disappeared for three days before her family found her, incoherently mumbling and tugging at her hair. She was secluded for a week until her mumbling stopped and she had told her father she was with child. When spring came, she gave birth to a son- a son with wolf’s eyes. She had said to all Murrchad was the father of her son and hence he was named Cuan Iomhar- wolf warrior.

"The arrow that pierces the stag shall also kill that who is dear.": Siobhan often warned her son about the dangers of hunting. Cuán was seven now, and in that time his mother had moved him to another village. Their home had become too small for her to do work out of. His village friend, a boy named Kealan that he often played with had challenged Cuán to a game- this time to see who could catch the a stag first. Armed with a bow, arrows and his luck, Cuán and Kealan set off for the wood to catch a stag. His mother had told him not to go, but Cuán had always been headstrong. His mother had said it was dangerous to be out there in those woods- but he didn’t listen. Cuán had been the first to spot the stags and shot an arrow- piercing one through the heart- and also injuring Kealan. He ran back to the village for help but it was too late- Kealan was dead.

"Shiver cold and bleak, the wolf eyes will conquer the beast.": Cuán had hit his thirteenth year. It was the year he had gone on a real hunt. It was another hard winter in Cill Mohr, but he was prepared. His mother had told him- he would not come home empty handed. That was the first year he had been out since Kealan’s death. Cuán had still trained with his weapons. He had prowess- much like that of his father. Siobhan watched as her son grew more and more, strong and wild like the God that had fathered him. That year, Cuán went out with the other men in the village on a hunt to catch the wolves that had been roaming about and killing their sheep. He was the only one awake in camp that night when he pulled his bow and shot the giant white wolf- a rarity in the hills of the north. He took the wolf home and showed his mother who congratulated him- and made him a cloak. It is the same cloak that is his most prized possession.

"The kiss of red shall lead to the bed of death.": When he was sixteen Cuán first set his eyes on Eireann. Siobhan warned him against the pretty girl during the Festival of Dana. “She is not for you.” She told her son as she held his face between her hands, the same wolf eyes she knew so well- Murrchad’s eyes. “She will bring you nothing but pain my son. You will find another.” Cuán shook his head. “It is her that I want mother. You do not understand love.” But those words cut far more deep than Siobhan would admit. Cuán had kissed Eireann as the fires danced in her eyes and for the first time in his life, he had felt alive.

"Glory shall come the day the sun spits its fire.": Cuán enters in his first major tournament in a gathering of all the barons. He wins a contest where he must wrestle a cow to submission. His win comes on the hottest day of record in Isularie, and when he wins, he emboldens himself and asks Eireann’s father for his daughter to wed. Drunk on his glory and power, something happens- he isn’t sure but, but her father agrees. Cuán and Eireann are married during the festival of Dana later on that year. He is twenty one and Eireann twenty. It is one of the happiest days of Cuán’s life. His mother, Siobhan, looks upon his marriage with sadness. Cuán later moves out and into his own home with his wife but he still frequently visits his mother. Their bond still remains close.

"When the wolf pup is pulled from its den, the golden flowers petals shall turn red.": The day Eireann announced she was with child, Cuán was over the moon. But his mother was sullen at the news. “I warned you about loving this girl. She will not live Cuán.” The fight Siobhan and her son had that night was the biggest they had ever had. He left her home, furious and did not speak to her for months. Eireann’s pregnancy had gone smoothly. They had been married for two years, Cuán out and about and traveling about the north, helping whoever needed work in ridding themselves of pesky predators on their farms or flocks. When he returned late one night, Eireann was in labor, hard labor. He quickly went to fetch his mother. Three days had gone by and there was no progress- and worse, Eireann had bled out giving birth to their child. The babe was quickly cut from her womb, but even then it was all for naught. The boy was pulled from his mother, dead. Siobhan gave her son the news and Cuán’s face had turned white. He went into the woods, staying there for two weeks before he returned home. He was only twenty four.

"The jewel you shall covet and will not have, for its glimmer shall be poison.": Eireann’s death had sent Cuán into a dark, place. Siobhan had done all she could to bring him out of it- but that year, a hard chill had set into Cill Mohr and a sickness swept through their village. Siobhan was struck ill too and in that time Cuán forgot the grievances he had against his mother to stay by her side. Many had said the Gods had finally called away Siobhan, for her time had been up. Cuán refused to leave his mother- praying night and day for her to get better. He used all the remedies he had known her to use on a similar type of illness, but the hedgewitch had insisted it was her time to go. The Gods had called her away, her time was done in this world. But she gave Cuán one last prophecy- one that haunts him to this very day. He prayed fervently that she be saved, but all his prayers were in vain for by that December Siobhan Tighe had died and along with her, so had Cuán’s faith in the Gods. He cursed them. He left Cill Mohr after his mother’s passing, traveling around Isularie and doing work where he could. He is well regarded as a respectable warrior amongst the people of the North, for he is the son of Murrchad- he would find his way once more in the world. He was twenty seven when his mother passed, and now has spent his last two years in isolation and roaming, a shell of a man that he once was.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Eireann Slane: Cuán's wife. She was the first woman he fell in love with at a festival in honor of Dana. They courted briefly before they were wed. Eireann was the daughter of a blacksmith, and while her father was reluctant to part with her to Cuán, he provided her with a good household and living. She died in childbirth with their first child and it is remarked that with her death, all life had gone from Cuán's eyes.

Ambitions:

Cuán wishes to find the truth about the circumstances of his birth and find out who his real father is.

He desires to seek revenge against the Gods for taking away his wife and son from him.

He wants to become the greatest warrior in all of the North and will stop at nothing to achieve this.

Fears:

He fears death and dying, as all men do.

Cuán is afraid that all the prophecies his mother has given him are fated to come true and as such, he fears not having any control over his life and instead it is already determined by the Gods.

He also is scared of bears- not that he's ever seen one. They are the one animal he is sure he probably could not kill.

Likes:

The rain. He likes being outside in it, even if it could make him sick.

His weapons. Cuán likes using them to go hunting and killing things. In fact, he rather does enjoy killing things. He's rather good at it.

Festivals- he actually likes going to them for the free food. Who doesn't?

Making things because it gives him a sense of purpose in the world.

Dislikes:

Cuán dislikes the snow because he hates the cold. Very much even though some of his fondest childhood memories are in the s now.

He hates the woods in Cill Mohr. It probably fueled his desire to leave his childhood home. He felt guilty for many of the things that have happened there- and also felt no desire to stay after the deaths of his wife and mother.

Deep, Dark Secret: Cuán fears that he is destined by the Gods to have a horrible life- one of suffering and pain. His greatest fear is that he is accursed by the Gods and as such- will never find peace or happiness in his life.

Overall:

Cuán was once a loud and boisterous man. He boasted he could out drink and out eat any man, and for the most part it was true. Vivacious, he had a glimmer in his eye and a grin on his face. His mother always claimed he was Murrchad’s son through and through, and Cuán has a magnetism about him that draws people in. It is his wolf eyes, as they are called that can see through a person. He could always be made to make people life and was very loud. He enjoyed a good laugh, good food and good women. He was not a man that took his appetites wherever he pleased however. He was careful, as he didn’t want any bastards himself. Cuán was known for his good soul and his good heart. Adept with a bow and sword, he was good at hunting and his formidable strength gave him a certain air. He found himself to use this to his advantage. He was not particularly violent- he just enjoyed using his big frame to get what he wanted from time to time.

A loyal and good man, Cuán was known for giving his heart openly and willingly. He made friends and kept them easily. He was a man who kept his word. Whenever Cuán made a promise he kept it. He takes oathbreakers and liars as the worst sort of people and as such Cuán does not like associating with them.
He thinks they are never to be trusted with anything and will steer clear of them. Cuán believes that oathbreakers will get what is coming to them, either in this life or the next. However, he is very reliable and straight to the point. Cuán does not like to tip toe around things. He hates people that waste his time and more importantly, he doesn’t like people that don’t give him a good ale for his efforts.

Cuán was once a highly religious man, but now he believes he is cursed. He has taken to dealing with his problems with constant drinking and when he is sober, he tends to look gloomy and does not talk to those unless he is close to them. He hates that he has no control over his life and has cursed the Gods for taking away all that he loved in his life. Cuán’s faith is completely shattered and he has become a bitter pessimist. He is hell bent on breaking the cycle of his life- one that his mother always correctly predicted what would happen to him. He is forever haunted by the last prophecy she gave, as almost all of her prophecies she had told him about his life came true. Cuán is determined to change his fate and find out the truth about who his father is. He was told he is the son of a God, but who is his father really? Cuán believes half of him is missing and he is determined to find out what- or who he really is. As of such, he doesn't think about the future now- only where his next drink will come from as that is all he cares about.

Okay. Wow. This week is gonna be kind of nuts.

Idk if I told you guys that I'm doing a freelance reporting job this summer, but that's what I'm doing. After being asked to be an Honorary Chair for this year's Relay for Life, I was asked to write articles to profile my fellow Chairs and the Honorary Caregiver. This has me tied up at the moment because I have two interviews this week, plus four articles to write. I am SWAMPED, but it should get easier after this week.

Because if writing on a deadline wasn't enough, let's throw a surgery in there too! Yes, finally my port is coming out. On Friday. When my articles are due. Joy.

Next week I will be a posting maniac. My goal is to catch up completely because next month I am doing Camp NaNoWriMo (again). I will probably still have time to post next month, but my posts will be more sparse. So the goal is to catch up on everything next week.

On top of that, I'm trying to adopt a life. Busy bee. But I can promise that I will always come home to you guys.
Walking tall against the rain

Early January, 1046
The Lord Chamberlain’s office

Queen Alys had been murdered. Charles Somermet and his wife were dead from plague. Rhys Blackwood was dead from fever. Robert Seymour’s list of allies was shrinking. Hector Beaumont still lived and needed advice on his daughter’s marriage; Sofia was going to be difficult to place. The Beaumont name still had a whiff of treachery, but this adventuresome young lady had potential. Robert had no idea if Marie’s schooling had helped Sofia, but he was going to find out. Hector and Thomasin tended to let their children run wild. Paying his brother-in-law a visit was on his schedule. Edwin Beaumont was having difficulties in his private life that Robert felt he should stay out of. Yes, Robert Seymour was actually deciding to avoid a delicate situation. Richard Arundel would probably not appreciate Robert’s involvement in his life either, though Robert might send him a letter. Madeline’s betrothal to Rhys III still stood. He couldn’t deny her, despite his still burning indignation over Rhys’s bedding the queen. They had been her protectors! This didn’t give them the right to take advantage of her. Taking advantage of a lady was unthinkable to Robert. He might make matches without the input of those involved, but he wasn’t alone in this. Good patriarchs knew what was good for their families, even if it meant disowning someone or prodding a few recalcitrant young people into a beneficial union. He had written to Katherine Watermore in past moments of weakness, but by now he had ceased contact with her, apart from greeting her at court. He had always called Marie the Beaumont jewel, but he had finally decided she was a sapphire. It wasn’t just the color(s) of her eyes, but her slow but sure hardening over the years of their marriage.

The stack of papers on Robert’s desk had finally reached a manageable size. He was going to take a walk in the gardens soon and come back to finish. He was just going to sign one thing before he left. He dipped the quill in the inkpot and wrote “Robert Seymour, Count of…”Then the ink ran out. Another dip later, he had modified his signature to “Robert Seymour, Count of Corly, Lord Chamberlain to His Majesty the King Callan Rex”.

However, he wasn’t going to be leaving soon because someone was at the door.

So, I'm going to try some thing that I hope will make it easier for everyone to plot and know what's coming up and be able to plot around (or plan to plot in) what will be happening in the countries as major plots points.

Feel free to reply to this thread and tell me whether or not this helped you, as a player, get involved with main plots or affected your current plots (in good ways, of course). Or if it didn't help at all, explain why! If this ends up helping the vast majority, I'll be doing each at the beginning of each season.
-Pope's letter has arrived advocating a betrothal to Marguerite de Marchon, Princess of Farangalia (start of the season)
-Kona Seraphin visits and finds the Chronicles of the Kings (player choice)

-Betrothal to Marguerite de Marchon will be official at the end of this season if not sooner. (So around May, June 1046)

-Farangalia will no longer be considered a threat (once betrothal is made)
-Sibeal secretly requests the Romani Empire to send her a groom without getting her council's permission (he arrives March, 1046)

-Sibeal betroths or straight up marries Zeno (either in public or secret a la Aldrin/Alys depending on character reactions) (Betrothal will happen during a party in May or June 1046. Marriage would happen in a very private chapel at the palace with few witnesses in either May or June, 1046)

-She will choose her ladies in waiting. Anyone interested can PM me or reply to this. (This happens in February, 1046)
